Yangtze river

The Yangtze river (left), flowing into the ocean (right), creates interesting shapes in the water, rendered visible by the interesting colours, from red, to pink, to white, to turquoise, created by the pollution build-up carried by the river.

The Yangtze River drains into the East China Sea. The urban build-up in the area has given rise to what may be the largest concentration of adjacent metropolitan areas in the world, home to over 115 million people.

Because of the large population of the delta, as well as factories, farms, and other cities upriver, the Yangtze Delta could the biggest cause of marine pollution in the Pacific Ocean. This image of the delta connecting with the ocean was taken by Sentinel 2 (Copernicus program) on May 2017.
